The Biggest Surprises From The 2020 Emmys

The 2020 Emmys may have looked a little bit different this year, but as they say in Hollywood, “The show must go on!” However, people wearing hazmat suits to the awards ceremony wasn’t actually the strangest thing to come out of the night. It turns out, the 2020 Emmys would be full of surprises that absolutely none of us could have guessed. Here are just some of the biggest shocks…

Schitt’s Creek Won Big

Most people thought that this comedy show would do well at the Emmys, but no one could have predicted just how well it would do. It was hotly tipped to win the Best Comedy Series award, but it did so much more than that. It won every single possible award in the Comedy Series categories, from Best Actor to Best Director. It’s the first Comedy or Drama show to have ever scooped up all the prizes!

The Bad Place

Knowing that Schitt’s Creek picked up every comedy Emmy means that this one probably doesn’t come as much of a surprise. Despite it being a fan-favorite throughout, The Good Place failed to pick up a single Emmy for the final series. Many people believe the show’s creator, Michael Schur, is cursed considering the much-loved Parks and Recreation also never picked up an Emmy!

Youngest Ever Lead Actress in a Drama

Plenty of people were expecting Helena Bonham Carter in The Crown or Jennifer Aniston in The Morning Show to win the highly coveted Best Lead Actress in a Drama award this year. However, people were stunned when Zendaya was announced as the winner for her part in HBO’s Europhoria. Even she looked stunned! She’s now the youngest ever winner of this award.

The 2020 Emmys were certainly full of some big surprises this year, but that’s kind of how we like it. Right?
