If you follow her on Instagram, you might have noticed something odd these days. She has been hiding books in the nook and cranny of specific public places in London for the lucky ones to find!
She has literally become the book fairy!
The mainstream media had caught up to the story after she posted some photos of her hiding copies of Little Women by statues that honor women. The book is a classic marvel created by the legendary and pioneer writer Louisa May Alcott. The writer is known to all for her inspiring books that fueled women empowerment back in the 1800s.
This year, Emma starred in Little Women, the motion picture. The actress got inspired by the story so much that she decided to spread the enlightenment to all the women. That’s why she chose to hide the books in the statues that acknowledge the contribution of the women who took a stand against the odd.
She specifically chose the memorial of Agatha Christie, Amy Winehouse, Mary Seacole, Noor Inayat Khan, the Women of World War II, and Suffragette memorial.
Some might think that her act is a publicity stunt to increase the ticket sales of the Little Women movie. But we know our Emma, she never chooses such roads!
Actually, this is her first-step to promote a noble initiative – The Book Fairies. The Book Fairies is a non-profit organization that has figured out a unique and fun way to pass down a good book. A reader will find a book somewhere in a public place, read it, and then hide it again in public places.
It seems like their slogan – “I believe in book fairies,” is truly magical!
Since the beginning of the journey in 2017, they have gathered about 9,000 people voluntarily working in more than 100 countries.
Emma Watson joined the cause on December 15th and announced the Little Woman campaign. A total of 150 “book fairies” in 38 countries will help her in the campaign. They aim to plant 2,000 copies of Little Women all over the world.
She used her social influence on Instagram to spread the positivity. This is her posted on Instagram on December 15th – “I’m excited to reveal a global effort with @bookfairiesworldwide to hide 2,000 copies of Little Women!”
This is not the first time she acted as a book fairy. Previously, we saw her hiding books in March 2017 while promoting the Our Shared Shelf campaign from The Book Fairies.
Her followers on Instagram are showering the idea with love and joy.
Why wouldn’t they? In these dark times, when reading books has becomes a forgotten art, she is a torchbearer, leading from the front!
