As a Kid, Jason Bateman Nearly Crashed Into Michael Jackson

Apparently, Jason Bateman and Rick Schroder weren't very easy-going kids, especially on the stage of their sitcom Silver Spoons back in the ‘80s. In a recent interview, Bateman revealed how the pair once almost ran over Michael Jackson with their bicycles.

Jason Bateman Crashed Into Michael Jackson

The bicycle incident happened when the King of Pop was visiting the set of the sitcom. Jason Bateman explained that it took place while he and Schroder were having a break from filming and riding around the show's set. He clarified that they were doing Silver Spoons at Universal and they had to have their bikes because as kids, they had to play. Apparently, Michael was there to see Schroder because he was a fan of the Ricker!

Despite being a fan of the show, Jackson could not avoid the crash with Bateman and Schroder's bikes. Jason Bateman recalled how when Jackson was coming onto the stage, the two almost took him down as they were zooming off near him. Fortunately, Jackson was able to moon-walk away without any harm.

Bateman gave this latest interview during an episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live! Schroder starred as the lead Ricky in the NBC family comedy Silver Spoons, which was about the father-son dynamic between him and his rich socialite dad Edward Stratton III, played by Joel Higgins. Bateman played the role of Ricky’s best friend Derek Taylor during the first two seasons of the show. After his departure, Alfonso Ribeiro took the role of Ricky's best friend for the remainder of the series.

Bateman has had a very long career since Silver Spoons, starring in many series like Arrested Development and Ozark. He has also starred in dozens of movies, including Hancock, Horrible Bosses and its sequel, Zootopia, Game Night, and more. Apparently, he is now focusing on his comedy podcast SmartLess, which he leads together with Will Arnett and Sean Hayes.
