The electronic DJ and production duo The Chainsmokers consist of Alexander “Alex” Pall and Andrew “Drew” Taggart. The two plan to do a feat that would make them the first musical artists to perform at the edge of space. The duo seems to be planning the stunning performance as a tribute to their latest hit, “High.” The edge of space is certainly high enough for the artists to live up to their lyrics.
The Chainsmokers Plan to Perform 20 Miles Above Earth’s Surface
Drew and Alex have signed up to get into a pressurized capsule that will be tethered to a stratospheric balloon and lifted into space. This is supposed to happen in a few years when The Chainsmokers will perform some 20 miles above the Earth. This feat would make them the first musical artists to perform at the edge of space. The duo will go on this adventure thanks to a fledgling space tourism company World View. According to the company, The Chainsmokers will be on one of its inaugural flights in 2024. The performance will be recorded from inside the capsule, giving any viewers the ability to experience the trip and music firsthand.
The Chainsmokers Are Stoked to Be Able to Collaborate With World View
In a recent statement, The Chainsmokers said that they have always dreamt of going to space and were stoked to collaborate with World View. They thanked the company for enabling them to have this adventure and experience and added that they knew views of Earth and space were going to be incredible and inspiring. The duo also hopes to leverage this flight for creativity on future projects.
So far, The Chainsmokers have had five top ten Billboard Hot 100 hits. These include the songs “Closer,” “Paris,” and “Don’t Let Me Down,” as well as “Something Just Like This,” which is one they performed with Coldplay in 2017. Their latest album, So Far So Good, was released May 13, 2022, with “High” being the leading single.
